Poland making room for Poles

Polish trade unions are demanding a restriction on the number of foreign workers allowed into their country … to leave room for countrymen leaving Britain.

Thousands of Polish workers are expected to lose their jobs in Britain and other parts of the European Union affected by the economic crisis.

I know there is a joke somewhere in this article. Maybe the respondents to the poll in the last blogpost will get their wish come true?

Immigrants, Out! (According to poll)

In the UK a huge majority – 78 per cent – believed immigrants should be asked to leave the country if they do not have a job, with only 14 per cent disagreeing and eight per cent undecided.

So 78% of the Britons want immigrants to leave the country according to a new poll. I’d call that a strong majority. Not enough with that. Here’s more results from the same poll:

A similar number held the same view in Italy along with sizeable majorities in Spain, Germany and the U.S. and around half of those questioned in France.

Just over half of British adults opposed the right of all EU citizens to settle and work in Britain.

A narrow majority of Germans agreed, while there was slightly more support for the right of free movement and access to Labour markets among French, Italians and Spaniards.

Protectionist and nationalist sentiments seem to be having a feast in the shadow of the economic crisis. That’s a sad sight if you ask me, but totally understandable.

Europe shows good judgement

Via CNBC:

Jean-Claude Juncker, chairman of a meeting of euro zone finance ministers, rejected the notion that European governments’ fiscal policy was not aggressive enough.

“The 16 finance ministers agreed that recent American appeals insisting Europeans make an added budgetary effort were not to our liking, given that we are not prepared to go further in the recovery packages we have put forward,” he told reporters in Brussels after ministers held regular talks.

Good showing from the European governments.
